Click the links below to take a sneak peek into our learning spaces. Our classrooms are versatile and teachers are free to move their furniture around to fit the needs of the learners as often as they like, so the descriptions might not always fit the virtual tour photo exactly.
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade Classroom: Our lower elementary classroom features a bright and sunny learning space with versatile work spaces and a designated meeting area that we refer to as “Crew”. Our K-2 students enjoy an ample library, and lots of room to find a cozy quiet corner to settle into some writing or a good book. Han, our lead teacher in this classroom, has a designated meeting space for small group work and there is one communal table that fits all of the students together for whole group work flexibility. It has its own spacious bathroom and is right off of our cubby and kitchen area, which the kids often utilize to heat up their lunches and wash their dishes.
3rd – 5th Grade Classroom: Our upper elementary classroom is also bright and sunny with similar versatile work spaces, large library and Crew meeting area like the K – 2 classroom. The couches serve both as a quiet work space and small group work area, but when students are all working together they have the large table area to convene and can utilize both the projector screen and oversized TV screen with internet capability. This classroom has access to both the front and back play spaces and also has its own bathroom.
Art Studio: This creative space is a favorite of our students. It has everything they need to design, build, draw, paint and sculpt whatever they can dream up. Both crews have access to the studio every day at lunch to create and it is also heavily utilized by our after school program as well. Students enjoy a designated art class here led by Hannah every week for one hour. We also host a couple of after school art classes a couple times a week led by Sweet Ridge Studios and Susan, our resident ceramics expert.
Front Play Yard: You can often spy a rowdy game of soccer with kids of all ages participating and working together in this area. Other popular sports of late have been volleyball and kickball. This space isn’t just for sports, however, as both classrooms like to extend their learning space onto the comfortable AstroTurf and hold a read aloud underneath the shade tree, engage in an important Crew conversation or just play a fun game like Steal the Bacon or Silent Ball. On nice days, Jaime takes her students out here for a yoga class once a week. We also hold many community events on the grass like our annual “Food, Fun and Filanthropy Fair”, Thanksgiving Potluck, and Talent Show.
Backyard Playground: This space is intentionally designed to inspire creativity and imagination. Students have access to wood planks, metal dishware, tires and buckets and they come up with all sorts of fun and games here. Our communal lunch space is on the heated patio and just beyond that is our beloved digging area equipped with shovels and spades.
